FREEZE FRAME FRIDAY #2: (a little late - sorry - it’s been a week).
I am posting a random Jimmy Buffett concert photo that I shot from back in the day - in this case, offering another moment from the very first row in Boston, March 9, 1978.
This particular FREEZE FRAME was taken while Jimmy performed “The Coast of Marseilles,” a beautiful song written by Keith Sykes.
This is another abbreviated, sharing of one of my life's best nights.
While a sophomore at Boston College, I organized a group of 20 friends, all wearing custom printed, “A1A” yellow shirts to see Jimmy at the Orpheum Theatre.
Opening act Ashford and Simpson were already well into their set, with all 20 of our seats empty in the first four rows, awaiting our arrival. I remember feeling like royalty as all 20 of us walked down to our primo seats, all center stage.
Soon, Jimmy and the Coral Reefers were on stage. OMG! WE WERE SO CLOSE!
The below photo was NOT taken during the Jimmy Buffett concert, but included to show how close to the stage our seats were:
Of the four of us sitting in the first row, three of us were taking photography classes at BC. Throughout the concert, we were shooting photos. Jimmy kept looking at us, appearing to try to figure us out.
Needless to say, the concert was outstanding from start to finish.
That night in Boston inspired me to live my life like a Jimmy Buffett song:
“As a dreamer of dreams and a travelin' man
I have chalked up many a mile…”
(Son of a Son of a Sailor)
Just 9 days later, on March 18th, while my fellow college students were treating their St. Patrick’s Night hangovers, I set out on a 5-day “hitch-about” from Boston to Buffalo to Columbus to Cincinnati to see Jimmy perform 3 concerts over those 5 days.
It was truly a trip of a lifetime and changed the direction of my life.
Hope you enjoyed these true words and personal photo.

CONGRATULATIONS to my first MONTHLY photo winner: Monty Cooper and my two recent WEEKLY photo winners: Debbie Thomas and Autumn Stoller. Your photos will be sent via mail soon!
I’ll bet the 2 days in between (your) shows was when he was playing the shows we saw on campus at that time at the U of Michigan/in Ann Arbor & at Michigan State/in Lansing! Back then he was playing the “college circuit” yearly it seemed.
Love that you had the epiphany at this concert. About my previous post about Carol Burnett, she wrote “Only I can change my life, no one can do it for me”. And you did that!
